If you’re still on the fence about Kingdom Hearts III, you can now download a free demo to finally see if it was worth the wait.

We said it was worth the wait about 10 months ago when Kingdom Hearts III first released, giving it 4.5 stars out of 5. Most reviews were pretty kind to Kingdom Hearts III, with some calling it the best of the series. Some criticized the game’s pacing in the middle (that third act is always a challenge), and some lamented the loss of so many Final Fantasy characters in favor of Disney ones.

One of the main complaints from series veterans was just how easy the game was. That was addressed last April with the release of Critical Mode, which dials the difficulty up to make it as hard as Square Enix dared.

Kingdom Hearts III was also a commercial success, shipping over 5 million units in the first week of sales. So there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that KH3 is the real deal.

But maybe you’re just one of those skeptics that can’t be bothered to buy a game until you’ve had a chance to play it. That must make being a gamer difficulty in this day and age where demos are about as hard to come by as a game that doesn’t need a day 1 patch that doubles the size of the install file.

However, they are out there, and Square Enix has been kind enough to bestow Kingdom Hearts III with a free demo many moons after the initial release. We can’t really blame them for taking this long given how many people were willing to buy it sight unseen.

The demon is available now on the PlayStation Store for the PS4 and the Microsoft Store for Xbox One. In it, you get access to the introductory sequence until you reach Olympus, as well as the first half of the Toy Story adventure. After that, you gotta buy the full game to continue, but you can at least transfer over your save data from the demo once you do.

We’re still waiting on news regarding Kingdom Hearts’ first DLC, Re: Mind, which is supposed to release sometime this winter. Stay tuned for details.
