Bandai Namco has announced the first DLC character for Jump Force. It is none other than Seto Kaiba, the fan favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! character who is probably even more well liked than Yugi himself. In addition to Kaiba, Bandai has unveiled its monthly plans for DLC content through August.

Kaiba being confirmed raises an interesting question. Could the DLC leak from last month be accurate? A Youtuber named SergioM3 claimed to have found nine character names in the code after Jump Force’s patch 1.03 was released. Kaiba was one of those characters, along with My Hero Academia’s All Might, Dragon Ball Z’s Buu (specific version not given), Madara from Naruto, and some others.

Although one confirmed character does not automatically confirm a leak as accurate, Kaiba’s inclusion is something to keep in mind. We should know sooner than later who the other two characters will be in the May update. If those two are from the leak, then it’s more than likely to be true.

Jump Force was originally announced during Microsoft’s 2018 E3 presentation. It was an unexpected title, and became a talking point of the show. It appeared to be a love letter to fans of iconic Jump franchises. Unfortunately, Jump Force released in February to mixed reception, more toward the negative side. The Xbox One version has a score of 61 on Metacritic, making it the 16th lowest rated game of the year on the aggregator site. The PC version fares worse, dropping to a 58, with the PS4 version dipping to 56.

What went wrong? Despite featuring all these characters, the storyline isn’t as well done as one would think. The cutscenes have been mocked by players. The characters barely move at all in the cutscenes, with the story mainly being told through them just standing around and talking. What should have been The Subspace Emissary for Shonen Jump ending up being a disappointing trek. Still, the core combat for Jump Force has been mostly liked. Bandai Namco will be releasing a number of updates, so maybe the game will be updated for the better as time goes on.

Jump Force is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
