100 Thieves has officially announced a fundraising event by the name of Gamers for Equality, which will be going down for three weeks in July and will feature tournaments from League of Legends, VALORANT, and Fortnite.

The event is being held to raise funds for organizations aimed at furthering racial equality, as mentioned in a Tweet sent out by 100 Thieves’ official Twitter account last Friday.
This comes after the event’s delay, which was originally meant to begin on June 18th. The delay was brought about by Activision’s denial of 100 Thieves’ request to feature Call of Duty: Warzone in the tournament series. Apparently Activision didn’t want CashApp as a sponsor for the tournament, but also had issues with other organizations featuring Activision’s game in a tournament without complete clearance from them first (which seems to be what happened, according to 100 Thieves CEO Matthew Haag, aka Nadeshot).
However, Nadeshot emphasized that the issue had been blown out of proportion, and that it isn’t as big of a deal as people are making it out to be, he states in a video posted to Twitter earlier this month. He said he respects Activision’s decision, and wanted to reassure the public that it wasn’t a move by the publishing company to slight the racial justice and Black Lives Matter movements.

Seeing as CashApp are the folks who had pledged the $100,000 to donate to the cause, cutting off the deal wasn’t an option for 100 Thieves, so instead the latter formed a Plan B. Their event is still due to take place, just with different games – League of Legends, VALORANT, and Fortnite.
Spanning three weeks, the event will feature celebrities and gamers alike competing to raise the funds to be donated to charity. It’ll kick off with League of Legends on July 1st, followed by VALORANT on July 8th, and Fortnite on July 15th.
The organizers have told us to stay tuned for more information and event details, so watch this space.
